Family of Frederick^5 Van Wickle(n)

Frederick^5 Van Wickle(n) (Frederick^4, Evert^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes), b. abt. 1757, Jamaica, Queens, NY

Married: Rebecca Waring (b. abt 1757, CT) abt 1777

Children: (According to census data in source section below, Frederick and Rebecca may have had as many as 3 sons and 6 daughters. Presently, the only available evidence that Richard is a son of Frederick and Rebecca is Rebecca's legal renunciation document of 1819 [see source section below] in which administration of Frederick's estate is transferred from her to Richard Van Wickle. Although there is a high probability that Richard is their son, more documentation is needed to validate this claim.)
1. Rebecca^6 Van Wickle, b. 2 Sep 1786, NY

2. Richard^6 Van Wickle, b. abt 1798, NY

Parents:
Frederick's parents are Frederick and Margrietie (Geritje) [Springsteen] Van Wicklen
Rebecca's parents are John and _____ Waring

1776 Dutchess County Militia (Land Bounty Rights) - 3rd Regiment, Enlisted Men lists Fredrick Van Winkel. Source: New York in the Revolution as Colony and State, Vol. 1 - Extracts, J.B. Lyon Co., Albany, NY, 1904, p. 242 (There is also a John Waring among the enlisted men who might be related to Frederick's wife, Rebecca Waring. Rebecca's father, John, who died before 1767, may have had a son, John.) On 16 Nov 1782 Frederick and Rebecca (Waring) Van Wickle of southeast NY sell part of her father's Norwalk, CT estate.

James A. Roberts, NY in the Rev as Col and State, 1898 (1798?) - p. 54 The Line (US Svc) 4th Regt, (Pvt) Frederick Van Wicklen

1800 census, Greenburgh, Westchester, Frederich Van Winkler - but this appears to be a Van Wickle, listed New Rochelle 1790
(127). No record 1810. WCo Surr Ct LA D 10 iss 5-18-1819 on est of Frederich Van Winkle of Gbgh.

1790 US Census for New Rochelle, Westchester, NY, lists household of Frederick Van Winkle as 1 male over 16 (Frederick), 2 males under 16, and seven females [one of which is obviously his wife, Rebecca].

1800 US Census for Greenburg, Westchester, NY lists household of Frederick Van Winkeler as 3 males under 10, 1 male over 45 [Frederick], 2 females under 10, 1 female 10 to 16, one female 16-26, 1 female 26-45, and  1 female over 45.

No record can be found for Frederick in the 1810 US Census. (Record located 26 Aug 2005 - 1810 US Census for Greensburgh, Westchester, NY lists Frederick Vanvikel in a household with one male < 10, 1 male 10 to 16, 1 male >45 (Frederick), 1 female 10 to 16 and 1 female >45 (Rebecca). This leaves room for the possibility that the male child age 10 to 16 could be Richard Van Wickel (b. 1798, NY)

17Mar09 email from Maria Hopper provided the following information on Elijah and Rececca [Van Wickle] Sloat. "Thanks for the information on Fredrick Van Wincklin. He and Rebecca [Waring] Van Winkle [Wickle] were likely the parents of Rebecca Van Winkle, wife of Elijah Sloat [who became administrator of Fredrick's estate along with his son Richard in 1819. There were enumerated in New Rochelle in the 1820 and East Chester [Slote] in 1830 censuses of Westchester County. Elijah Sloat. Born on 16 May 1786, died on 24 Sep 1832. Rebecca died on 28 Apr 1868, aged 46y. Elijah married Rebecca Van Winkle, b. 2 Sep 1786 and d. 28 Apr 1868, aged 81y-7m and bur. with husband and several children who died young. They had 10 children, six of whom died young. Elijah's parents are unknown. He had a brotehr Horace Bull Sloat and possibly a brother, Samuel Sloat. [Birthdates are from #801 Genealogy of Sloat Family by Mary Hart Smith]

19Mar09 email from Rodney Sloat -- Maria Hopper cc'd me on an email to you about Rebecca. I am doing work on my line of the Sloat family that descends from Elijah Sloat and his wife, Rebecca Van Winkle. I've yet to discover who Elijah's parents are in order to connect my line of Sloats with the rest of the documented family. Here is what I have on Rebecca that I hope will be useful to you. Since Elijah is mentioned as an administrator in the will of Frederick Van Winkle on May 18, 1819 [Westchester County Surrogate Court] I have made the assumption that Elijah's wife, Rebecca, was Frederick's daughter. Elijah Sloat was born on May 16, 1786 in either New York or New Jersey and died Sept 24, 1832. Rebecca was b. Sep 2, 1786 and d. April 28, 1867. Both lived in Westchester County, New York at least since 1819. Both are buried in the Methodist Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY along with several of their children and Elijah's brother, Horace Bull Sloat and his wife, Elizabeth Gallaudet. Children are Maria^7 Ann [1809-1819], Esther^7 [1811-1819, John^7 [1813-1819] Elizebeth^7 [1815-1819], Magdaline^7 [1818-1886], Emeline^7 [1820-1820], William^7 Jewett [1821-1867], Ann^7 Maria [1825-1825], George Van Wickle [1827-1900], Benjamin^7 Wood [1830-1832]
